Great job by the MAAC coaches voting Iona head coach Kevin Willard as the 2010 MAAC Coach of the Year.  In just his 3rd year of a rebuilding situation, Willard led the Gaels to a 20 win season and a 3 seed in the conference tournament.  Iona exceeded everyone’s expectations this year.  The Gaels were picked in the preseason to finish 9th in the league this season.  It’s not often the coach who exceeds the most expectations wins Coach of the Year.  That’s how it should be - but so often, the coach of the regular season champs automatically wins it.

Congratulations to Fran McCaffery and Siena for a fantastic year as well and a special ’shout out’ to John Dunne at St. Peter’s.  What he has accomplished there the last couple of years has been impressive.
